It's official.
I'm shutting everything down tomorrow and turning the proverbial sign in the window to, "Sorry, We're Closed." Ownership of the domain is getting transferred, the catalogue is up in the air...the only good thing is that the stuff not on my computer is still mine. Which is to say, they can't take my brain (although I may have missed something in the fine print). Also, as my name has become synonymous with my work, I won't be posting anymore on various fora I frequent, at least not as "Jared A. Sorensen" with the skully logo. Which is weird, but so is life thus far. Look for JSorensen or some version thereof.
Never fear, True Believers. MMT will rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes of the old. We're not dead yet.
- J
Posting this early as my LJ account will be inaccessible as of tomorrow. :(

I said something like this on RPGnet, but I'll also say it here:
Jared, you were the guy got me reading and posting on RPGnet and Gaming Outpost, which led me to the Forge and onwards, which led me to meet some incredibly cool people (including you), play some incredibly cool games, and otherwise improve my experience playing games. You have this online persona: the punk, the rebel, the smartass, the Mean Man in Black. But I stayed with you at GenCon '01 and I know the truth: you're a very sweet, very funny, very sensitive guy. (Yeah, yeah, you've got the spiky hair and the big leather boots. But I've heard you talk to your wife on the phone, big guy. You can't fool me.) I'm really pissed off that this is happening to you. If there's anything I can do, any way I can help, let me know.

Well, I have no idea what the situation is, but in any case, it's troubling that you can't use your name in the future. That smacks of insanity fightable in court. I can understand your name combined with the Skully and your website URL or some permutation thereof, regarding certain contracts signed with either web host providers or employers of a creative nature, would be kiboshed, but just your name? The mind reels.
Since roleplaying game rules are not covered under copyright, you can always release newly-branded Spirit Snatchers and Lucid Dream RPGs in the future under your name, no?
In any case, my heart goes out to you, man. Stealing someone else's hard work, even if it is based on some contractual bullshit, is still bullshit.

Let me just spread this out so I have something to hitch my brain. You work your ass off over the years, build a veritable indie rpg army around your ideas. You love these ideas passionately, as does the growing legions of this fan army. You use, not only your online moniker, but your given name in association with these games. Somewhere along the way, you get tangled up with some particularlly incideous fine print. A period of time later, you get snagged by said fine print, get the shit litigated out of you, and they TAKE YOUR GIVEN FUCKING NAME?
I can't even figure how that could work. The indie rpg community is fairly compact, like most other independant industries, I imagine. What good is it going to do? They plan on literally wiping every trace of you off your own work? Were these more joking times, I'd insist that Graveyard Greg had something to do with this.
Shit, man. Your fans are with you. Sorry about the ramble, just, Christ o' Hell...
